  Ineffective for much of the game and delivered few decisive passes despite some nice link-up play with Bale. Let his head drop in the final 15 minutes.

  Drifted into good positions and twice went close to scoring in the first-half, seeing a header cleared off the line before a cross for Adebayor came back off the post. Replaced by Defoe 15 minutes from time.

  A typically robust performance from the midfielder as he pugnaciously protected the back four. Tended to dally too long when in possession but delivered a lovely ball to Adebayor for the Spurs goal.

  A threat in the first-half as he linked up Tottenham's play, but should have got something on the Van der Vaart delivery that hit the post. Did all the hard work for Bale's goal and didn't stop running.

  Didier Drogba Top of the Match

  The Ivorian was chosen ahead of Didier Drogba and broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a stunning strike as he bullied William Gallas and then smashed the ball past Cudicini was he weaker left foot. A classic performance and he must now be in line to start against Barcelona.

  Juan Mata

  The Spaniard 'scored' Chelsea's second goal in controversial fashion in the 49th minute, with referee Martin Atkinson awarding the strike even though it clearly didn't cross the line. Poor touch let him down when he could have scored in the first-half but produced a gorgeous pass for Ramires' decisive strike.
