The France international, who netted on his full debut in last month's friendly against Germany, has racked up 17 goals in 26 appearances in Ligue 1 this season and his impressive goalscoring form has seen him linked with a host of top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Juventus.
The player was also heavily linked with Newcastle United during the January transfer window yet according to L'Equipe, another English side, Villa, are now stepping up their interest in Giroud after sending a scout to watch the striker in action for Montpellier against Nancy on Saturday.
Giroud, though, has previously admitted that he was flattered by speculation linking him with a move to Munich and Bayern winger Franck Ribery was quick to welcome his club's reported interest in his compatriot.
Meanwhile, L'Equipe also claims that Villa are keen on Giroud's Montpellier team-mate, defender Benjamin Stambouli.
