Player Ratings: Wolves 0-0 Everton

Stalemate at Molineux brings Wolves' home campaign to a drab end. Everton will feel disappointed that a first half Nikica Jelavic strike was ruled out for offside.

The Wolves keeper had a good game and kept out the chances that Everton was able to create. He made a good save from a Pienaar free kick and marshaled his defense well to give Jelavic little space inside the penalty area.

  • Richard Stearman

    Richard Stearman

He had Wolves’ best chance in the second half but blasted his effort away from goal from a tight angle. Defensively he had a good game but was kept very busy by Jelavic and latterly Stracqualursi. He did his best to stay close to both men but the Everton strikers definitely had the better of the battle.

  • Stephen Ward

    Stephen Ward

The full back had a busy afternoon against McFadden but kept the Scot reasonably quiet down the Everton right. Going forward he offered little to the Wolves attacks and should have supported Hunt better down the left.

  • Christophe Berra

    Christophe Berra

The center half missed Wolves' best chance of the second half from close range and that summed up his game. He struggled against the pace and power of Jelavic and was replaced by Elokobi in the 54th minute.

The fullback had a solid game against Pienaar but never really had the winger under control and therefore spent most of his game on the back foot. When he was able to break free he looked dangerous until he reached the penalty area when he panicked and looked for a colleague.

  • David Edwards

    David Edwards

He worked hard in the center of midfield but failed to have any impact on the game and in truth it somewhat passed him by.

  • Michael Kightly

    Michael Kightly

A surprisingly quiet game from the winger who has been in good form recently. The pace and strength of Distin were too much for him to deal with, but he also suffered from a lack of attacking possession on the right side.

  • Karl Henry

The battling Wolves captain had gave a strong, solid performance in the middle of the pitch but he was unable to dominate the impressive Osman and Cahill. He led from the front with some good challenges and neat passing but his lack of attacking flair was evident when he got near to goal.

  • Stephen Hunt

    Stephen Hunt

Given his first start in the league in 2012 but he spent most of the match trying to get into the game and failing. His distribution from set plays was good and gave Wolves some threatening positions but they failed to capitalize.

  • Steven Fletcher

    Steven Fletcher

The Scot has scored 11 goals in the Premier League this season but was unable to add to that today and very rarely had a sight of goal to test Howard. He was replaced by Ebanks-Blake just after the hour mark.

  • Kevin Doyle

He never stopped running for his team but it was all in vain as he was unable to create anything dangerous in the Everton penalty area.

Replaced Berra in the 54th minute and gave the fans someone to cheer, he handled Jelavic well with plenty of strength.

He replaced Fletcher in the 61st minute but his radar was well off and he failed to test Howard.

  • Tim Howard

    Tim Howard

The Everton keeper had very little to do in the opening half of the game as the home side failed to force him into a save. He did look a little vulnerable from crosses into his penalty area but Wolves’ inability to finish combined with good defending helped keep the ball out of his net.

  • Tony Hibbert

    Tony Hibbert

The experienced fullback had a solid game without ever making much of an impression. He stuck very close to Hunt on Wolves' left and gave the winger no room to deliver crosses into the penalty area. Going forward he provided some dangerous crosses into the area but they were not converted.

  • John Heitinga

    John Heitinga

He kept up with the lively Doyle and pushed the Irishman out wide where he could cause less damage to the Everton goal. The Dutch defender was solid alongside Jagielka and together they blunted the Wolves attack and earned themselves a clean sheet.

  • Phil Jagielka

    Phil Jagielka

He handled the pace and power of Fletcher very well and hardly gave the Scottish striker a sniff in the opening half. His awareness and speed across the ground enabled him to intercept any dangerous balls from the Wolves forwards.

  • Sylvain Distin

    Sylvain Distin

Playing at left back in the absence of Leighton Baines, the Frenchman performed well although center half is definitely his stronger position. He handled Kightly comfortably, the winger is a real livewire but Distin gave him very little room to create anything worthy of note.

  • Tim Cahill

    Tim Cahill

The Australian had a quiet game in the center of midfield alongside Osman. He made some telling contributions and important interceptions but he didn’t have too much of an influence on the game.

  • Leon Osman

    Leon Osman

He was very busy in the middle of the pitch, linking up play between defence and attack and dominating against Henry and Edwards.

  • Steven Pienaar

    Steven Pienaar

He drifted around the midfield picking up the loose balls and looked to create openings for Fellaini and Jelavic. His passing and reading of the game were impeccable and his through ball to Jelavic in the first half was perfect, only for the assistant referee to rule the goal out for offside.

  • Marouane Fellaini

    Marouane Fellaini

The tall midfielder was a constant threat to the Wolves defense and played very well in between the midfield and attack. He linked up well with Jelavic and very nearly created a goal for McFadden in the first half. He should have given his side the lead just after halftime but he headed over the bar from six yards after meeting a Hibbert cross.

  • Nikica Jelavic

    Nikica Jelavic

The Croat should have had his 11th goal since arriving in January but his first half strike was ruled out for offside despite two defenders playing him onside. He had a good afternoon all round, his movement kept the Wolves defense on their toes and he found good positions but the final ball into him lacked the quality he needed.

  • James McFadden

    James McFadden

It was only the Scot’s second start since rejoining the club in November and he looked a little rusty at first as he passes went astray. As the game wore on he improved and began to threaten Ward down the Everton right, he was replaced by Stracqualursi in the 58th minute.

Replaced Cahill in the 68th minute and was full of running but he failed to test De Vries.
