Coach John Herdman has chosen his 18-woman squad for next month's Summer Games in London
Canada announced Monday its final squad selection for the women's football competition at the London Olympics.The 18-woman roster is led by 29-year old captain Christine Sinclair, who leads the Canadians in caps (180) and goals (134). Sinclair is joined by a number of teammates who also participated in the 2008 Beijing Games, including long-time national team veterans Karina LeBlanc, Candace Chapman, Diana Matheson, and Brittany Timko.
Canada has been placed in a group with current Women's World Cup holder Japan, South Africa, and Sweden. The Canadians will open their Olympic tournament against the Japanese on July 25 in Coventry before facing South Africa in the same city three days later. On July 31, Canada will face Sweden in coach John Herdman's hometown of Newcastle.
Prior to the Olympics, Canada will head to Sandy, Utah for a friendly match versus the top-ranked United States side on June 30.
