Montpellier's Girard: I'm am not too worried about Ligue 1 title race

The 58-year-old says that it's natural that his side feel a little pressure, but says it should not affect its performances on the pitch as it aims to become French champions

Montpellier coach Rene Girard has stated that he is not feeling nervous as the Ligue 1 title race draws to an exhilarating close.

The little-fancied minnows currently hold a two-point lead over Paris Saint-Germain with just five games to play, and although their form has faltered in recent weeks, the trainer says he is remaining calm.

"I'm not feeling nervous. I do feel some pressure - we're not exactly sitting in a chair, but that's all part of the business," he said as quoted by RMC. "What's ironic is that last weekend we were flying in the championship, and we weren't affected by pressure. The weekend after, we suffer."

Montpelllier travels to Toulouse on Friday, and Girard went on to say that the pressure on his squad will not be an excuse for failing to triumph at Stadium Municipal.

"If we lose there, it's not because we're feeling the pressure, it's because the opponent has played better."

Montpellier and Toulouse kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET on Friday April 27.
