Liverpool forward Ryan Babel claims that he is ready to knuckle down and show Reds supporters his true ability following a constructive discussion with his manager Rafael Benitez.

The 23-year-old Dutchman has endured something of a rocky time at Anfield, having never quite settled into a sustained period of good form.

He has expressed his frustrations at the situation in public on occasion and has looked almost certain to leave Liverpool at times.

But things seem to be looking up a little now.

"I have had a good talk with the manager and I know what I have to do," said Babel, according to Sky Sports.

"That is what I am going to concentrate on.

"I just have to try to be patient, keep working hard and doing my best."

Meanwhile, the player will be hoping to be a part of the Reds' side which travels to Romania for the second leg of their Europa League tie with Unirea Urziceni on Thursday.

Babel is confident that Benitez's side can protect their 1-0 first leg lead.

"Unirea may not be a well known team, but the fact they are playing in Europe at this stage shows they are a good team," he added.

"I think it's all about how you prepare yourself and as long as we do that then we should be fine.

"We have definitely improved over the last few weeks with a lot of clean sheets. The defence has been the basis of our better results.

"Slowly it gives more confidence and that is something that we have to try to keep hold of and hopefully we can be positive as we look forward."
