Lorient 2-1 Montpellier: Own goal from Bedimo and strike from Campbell dent visitors' title aspirations
In a surprise result, an own-goal from the Cameroonian and a fine finish from the Costa Rican lifted the struggling home team clear of the drop spots

Lorient took a huge step to avoiding relegation, whilst putting an unwelcome dent in the title ambitions of Montpellier with a 2-1 win on Sunday in French Ligue 1 action.
The visitors began the day three points clear at the top of Ligue 1, having claimed a welcome 3-1 victory away to Marseille midweek.
On a sunny spring afternoon at the Stade du Moustoir, it was the underdogs who took the game to the league leaders on their artificial pitch and possibly deserved to go into half-time leading.

Four minutes into the fixture, Remy Cabella had a chance to put the favourites in front, when he met Henri Bedimo’s cross from the left flank, but he headed over from the penalty spot.
This sparked Les Merlus into life with Jeremie Aliadiere and Kevin Monnet-Paquet having shots blocked inside the area on the 11th and 18th minutes respectively.
La Paillade’s Olivier Giroud was unable to convert from close range after getting on the end of a well worked ball in from Younes Belhanda 24 minutes in.
The home side proceeded to dominate possession but without creating an abundance of clear-cut chances, both sides went into the break with little between them.
Girard’s men were quicker out of the block in the second period and began to assert their domination through increased possession.
But, on the 69th minute, it was Gourcuff’s side who went ahead, thanks to an unfortunate own goal from Henri Bedimo. The visitors afternoon worsened when Joel Campbell hit a fantastic strike from outside the area in the 77th minute.
Montpellier responded immediately after the restart, with Olivier Giroud finding the net from close range, having started the move on the halfway line.
This wasn't enough and Lorient will be delighted with a much needed win, whilst Montpellier will now have all eyes on Paris St Germain.
