  Left flat-footed by Ronaldo's free-kick, but made some fine saves on the night, denying the Portuguese on two more occasions. Almost saved the penalty but saw the ball bobble over his outstretched right arm.

  Got forward well and caused plenty of problems down the left. Also got into some good shooting positions but blasted over from a promising position in the first half and was less effective in the second.

  Given a torrid time by Ronaldo all game and even when he did force the Portuguese inside, the Real Madrid lashed home a stunning shot. Did the best he could but lacked support and was up against a man inspired.

  Looked assured for much of the game but made mistakes as usual with some poor positioning and a lack of concentration. Atletico may never beat Madrid with the Colombian in their team.

  Diego Godín Leal

  A cynical display from the Uruguay defender, who was lucky not to be punished for an unseemly challenge on Pepe in the first half. But his reckless barge on Higuain led to a second-half spot kick, which was effectively game over. Some good defending in between.

  Worked very hard in midfield but was unable to see enough of the ball. Some nice touches when he did have it and linked up well with his forwards, but blasted one decent chance over the bar.

  A good outlet for Atletico on the left in the first half but faded as the game wore on and didn't really have the same influence in the second half.

  Another hard-worker in central midfield, he put in a lot of good tackles but could have given away a penalty for a questionable challenge on Ronaldo in the first half. Clipped a clever free-kick into the box after 20 minutes, but Falcao failed to make contact.

  Showed some real quality as he drove his team forward with some great dribbling. Got into a great position in the box in the first half but was just offside. Then drove a fierce shot against the post after the break.

  Offers something different and caused his rival defenders problems with some great running with the ball. Looked a goal threat, too, and set up Falcao's goal with a great run and cross in the second half.

  A threat in the air all night and his header had the Calderon rocking for a while. Won lots of balls in the air but headed over with another good chance and didn't get enough on target in the end. Could have done with more service, though.

  Saved Falcao's deflected strike early on and looked comfortable in the most part. Could do nothing with Falcao's brilliant header and had a moment of madness when he came out of his area to punch a ball, albeit off the pitch. And it was a goal kick anyway.

  Could have won a penalty when he was the victim of a nasty challenge by Godin. Given some problems in the air by Falcao but made one or two fantastic interceptions, one of which denied Adrian in the second half. Missed a sitter late on.

  Came close with a header early on but found like difficult at times in defence. Struggled to cope with the aerial threat of Falcao and was nervy at times as Atletico pressed but made several key blocks as well.

  Did enough to deflect Falcao's early shot, but didn't do enough to warrant his place in the team ahead of Marcelo. Carelessly conceded a corner and then sloppily cleared straight to Filipe Luis when he should have kicked the ball upfield. Hit the side netting in the second half.

  Left Adrian with far too much space to cross for Atletico's goal and his crossing was poor at the other end as well. Made one or two crucial interventions but often looks a weak link in this team.

  Worked incredibly hard in the centre of midfield and was forced back into his area on numerous occasions to help out as Atletico began with intensity. Made a number of important tackles in what was a disciplined display.

  Struggles at times in such intense games. He wasn't given the time and space he likes to spray the ball around but improved as the game wore on. Was booked for a tactical foul and is now suspended. But will be available for the Clasico.

  It looked as if he would be the one to make way as Ozil warmed up because he is still short of full fitness and found it difficult to get into position defensively. But he stayed on and remained a threat, winning free kicks and trying his luck with a number of efforts.

  Back on form with his free kicks as he put Madrid ahead with a sensational set piece. Then made it 2-1 later on and with a stunning second and made it three from the penalty spot. Saw several more efforts come close and set up Callejon for the fourth. Imperious display.

  Not his best game. Imprecise early on, losing the ball in midfield and failing to link up effectively with his team-mates. Then had one tame effort easily saved by Courtois late in the first half and rarely looked a threat in front of goal. Was eventually replaced.
