East Bengal defeated Sporting Clube de Goa 3-0 in a round 24 I-League clash played at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, on Monday.

Captain Sanju Pradhan opened the scoring in the 76th minute, which was soon followed by Tolgay Ozbey's 78th minute strike, while Robin Singh converted a spot kick in the 83rd minute to make it 3-0.

The home side started with Robin Singh and Edmilson Marques in the attack while Tolgay was kept on the bench until he featured in the second half.

Sporting coach Ekendra Singh had to do without striker James Moga while releasing South Korean recruit Park Jae-Hyun upfront with Dawson Fernandes.

East Bengal dominated the early session of play but Marques and Uga Okpara dropped their chances while the Goans were kept at bay for most of the first half.

Around the half hour mark, Edmilson again came close to scoring from a flag kick but his effort was saved on the goalline by Sporting keeper Ashok Singh as the score read 0-0 at half time.

The Goan side were able to keep a clean sheet only until the 76th minute before which they were left to do a lot of defending against an attacking Red and Gold brigade.

East Bengal skipper Sanju Pradhan unleashed a powerful right-footer from outside the box in the 76th minute to score the opener of the match.

Then two minutes later, Pradhan turned provider as substitute Tolgay Ozbey slotted in the second goal for his side in the 78th minute.

The match continued in the momentum of the Kolkata outfit who were awarded a penalty after Sporting goalie was alleged to bring down Robin Singh in the box, while the later made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute.

East Bengal (48) have hence moved second with competition from Pune FC and Churchill Brothers, while Sporting Clube de Goa will finish the season on eighth position with 37 points and a game in hand.
