Aston Villa Captain Stiliyan Petrov Hopeful He Will Be Fit For League Cup Final Against Manchester United
Virus-stricken midfielder optimistic over weekend inclusion.
By Alan Dawson
The Villans captain, who has been in strong form for Martin O'Neill's side this season, was omitted from the club's triumphant FA Cup fifth-round replay over Crystal Palace at home earlier in the week as he had picked up a virus.
"The virus is okay," he claimed in The Sun. "It is better. I've been on antibiotics for the last three or four days and we are expecting every day for it to get better and better."
The 30-year-old has been instructed by the club's physios that he is ready to return to the training ground.
"In my last game against Burnley at the weekend, I played with a little fever and then I felt really bad after the game.
"I had a lot of pain in my body and my chest was really tight and on Monday I was really bad so I started the antibiotics straight away.
"I've had my chest checked today and it was clear so I can go to train."
