Jerome Boateng: Chelsea won't play like they did against Barcelona in the Champions League final
The Germany international believes that the Premier League club will not adopt a defensive approach in the May 19 showpiece at the Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng believes that Chelsea will not park the bus in the upcoming Champions League final.Despite being subjected to heavy pressure for large sections of the semi-final tie against Barcelona, a fine defensive performance helped the Londoners overcome their Catalan opponents 3-2 on aggregate.
However, Boateng says that he is not expecting a similar performance at the Allianz Arena, where his side will hoping to lift the trophy on home soil on May 19.
"There is no magic formula, so I don't think Chelsea will play in the final as they did in the semi-finals against Barcelona," he told Bild.
"The barricade will not be safe with 11 men in front of their own penalty area. I'll leave it to our scouts to come up with a plan."
Bayern Munich will be without the services of suspended trio David Alaba, Luiz Gustavo and Holger Badstuber for the final, and Boateng criticised the officials for being too trigger happy in the semis.
"I think that the referee lacked a bit of common sense. The cards were very harsh, and I feel very sorry for the others."
Finally, Boateng stated that the Premier League and the Bundesliga are on a par in terms of quality, even in the English competition is more lucrative.
"The Premier League still has money, but both leagues are on a par," he concluded.
