Player Ratings: Brazil 1-2 Mexico

Two goals for Santos Laguna striker Oribe Peralta secured the deserved gold medal for Mexico as Mano Menezes's men delivered a dreadful defensive performance

    Gabriel

Was rather slow to get down for Peralta's opener and didn't have a chance of stopping his second. Seriously let down by the defenders in front of him.

  • Rafael

    Rafael

The Manchester United youngster struggled to hit top form during the tournament and was punished for some slack play after only 28 seconds, getting caught in possession before Peralta drilled it home.

  • Thiago Silva

    2.50

    Thiago Silva

The 27-year-old was forced to tidy up the mistakes of his more naive colleagues on numerous occasions, but did so with minimal fuss. A measured showing from the PSG superstar but could have done more to organise at the back.

  • Juan

    Juan

Picked up an early knock but shook it off. Grew into the game a little after a very shaky start but relied heavily on Thiago Silva from start to finish and, in large part, looked out of his depth.

  • Marcelo

    7
    2.50

    Marcelo

Didn't give Herrera an inch down the channel, forcing the Pachuca man down the line time and again. Was fortunate to escape with just a yellow card after an awful challenge on Peralta shortly before half time.

  • Alex Sandro

    Alex Sandro

Was isolated wide left for long periods but looked a threat when he intermittently got time on the ball. Whipped in a fine low cross from the flank shortly before the half-hour mark but was substituted for Hulk soon after.

  • Sandro

    Sandro

Did very little in the first half as Romulo took control in the middle but shored things up for Brazil when Mexico got hold of the ball, with one crunching tackle on Peralta a particular highlight for the Tottenham man.

  • Rômulo

    Rômulo

A lovely player to watch on and off the ball. The Vasco da Gama midfielder held his own in the midfield battle for possession, keeping it neat and tidy in a performance and mirrored that of Enriquez for the Mexicans.

  • Oscar

    Oscar

Should have done much better with a gilt-edged chance shortly before the 20-minute mark but tamely hit it into Corona's midriff after some neat skill in the area. A fine talent no doubt but was a little lax with his distribution as Menezes' side chased the game. Missed an absolute sitter of a header when he should have taken it to extra time in the last minute of injury time.

  • Leandro Damião

    Leandro Damião

Was sloppy in the first half, proving lazy in his link-up play with Hulk after the Porto man replaced Alex Sandro on the 30th minute. The tournament's top scorer was too static and needed to support Neymar and Hulk far more. Disappointing.

  • Neymar

    Neymar

Struggled to make an impact during the opening exchanges as Mier and Reyes marshalled him excellently but benefited from Hulk's introduction, and was Brazil's most dangerous player. A pleasure to watch in full flow.

    Lucas

Came on for the disappointing Rafael but had no time to make any significant impact.

    Hulk

Replaced Alex Sandro after only half an hour as Menezes looked to increase his side's power up front. Made an immediate impact with a flying 35-yard strike to test Corona and worked well alongside Neymar. Deserved his late consolation goal.

  • Alexandre Pato
    3

    Alexandre Pato

Didn't look sharp after replacing Sandro on the 71st minute as Menezes look to pack the Brazil front line.

  • J. Corona

    3.00

    J. Corona

The Mexico skipper had been in superb form during the tournament and took control of his back line yet again. Kept out Hulk's first-half piledriver well after being off-balance and could do little about the Porto man's late consolation strike.

  • I. Jiménez

    2.00

    I. Jiménez

Was rightly booked for a cynical second-half hack on Neymar and tired as the game went on as Brazil pressed further up the pitch. A solid but unspectacular showing from the Tigres full-back.

  • H. Mier

    H. Mier

The young Monterrey man pulled off a superb challenge on the 11th minute to deny Damiao and looked sharp throughout the first half. Maintained Mexico's solid defensive line for the full 90 minutes.

  • D. Chavez

    D. Chavez

Manfully stood up to wave after wave of Brazilian attacks and looked to get forward when he could. As consistent as he has been throughout the entire tournament.

  • J. Aquino

    3.00

    J. Aquino

Cleverly nicked the ball off Rafael in the build up to Peralta's opener and played in the striker with a smart ball from the left. Didn't have much joy thereafter, however, as Mexico looked to utilise the right wing, and was substituted early in the second half.

  • D. Reyes

    2.50

    D. Reyes

Kept a close eye on Neymar throughout the opening 45 minutes and worked well in tandem with Mier. Gave Oscar too much room in the area on the 20th minute but was reprieved by Corona.

  • C. Salcido

    2.50

    C. Salcido

Drilled an effort wide on the 35th minute and should have really hit the target given the space allowed to him by Brazil's lacklustre defence.

  • H. Herrera

    H. Herrera

Struggled to get the better of Marcelo down the right flank but worked hard in helping Jimenez at the back. A tireless showing from the 22-year-old.

  • M. Fabián

    M. Fabián

The catalyst behind each Mexico attack, Fabian was superb yet again after a tournament in which he has shone. Deserved a goal for his quick-thinking overhead kick after battling with Gabriel but saw it bounce off the bar.

  • Jorge Enríquez

    3.50

    Jorge Enríquez

A really tidy performance from the midfielder, receiving the ball with his back to goal as the Mexicans looked to break and distributing it to the dangermen. Kept his position nicely when out of possession as well.

  • O. Peralta
    28

    O. Peralta

Gave his side an incredible start after only 28 seconds, punishing Rafael for some slack defending with a wonderfully hit strike inside Gabriel's left-hand post. Was brought down brutally by Marcelo shortly before half time and thought he'd doubled his tally before it was correctly ruled out for offside. Eventually did so with a bullet header to wrap up the tie, and the gold medal.
