Poland 4-0 Andorra: Euro 2012 co-hosts secure thumping victory ahead of Group A opener

Poland concluded their final preparations for Euro 2012 with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Andorra at the Pepsi Arena in Warsaw.

Ludovic Obraniak put the hosts ahead after 16 minutes, before Robert Lewandowski's bicycle kick and Jakub Blaszczykowski's penalty made it 3-0 before half-time. Marcin Wasilewski wrapped up the victory with another penalty late on as Poland ended up their warm-up games with a 100 per cent record.

Coach Franciszek Smuda named the same starting XI which beat Slovakia 1-0 last weekend in Austria, with many of the players likely to feature in the opening game of Euro 2012 next Friday against Greece in the Polish capital.

The hosts began the game in typically bright fashion, with Borussia Dortmund duo Lewandowski and Blaszczykowski causing a few problems for the Andorran defence early on.

Given the shaky start from the visitors it served as no surprise when Poland took the lead after 16 minutes.

Al low cross from the left by Wasilewski found Obraniak who subsequently fired in over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar to hand the hosts a 1-0 lead.

It should have been 2-0 soon after, though Blaszczykowski missed a golden opportunity. A poor pass from Alexandro Martinez on the half-way line was charged down by Lewandowski who was clear through on goal. Selflessly squaring for the Polish captain, Blaszczykowski's weak shot was then saved by Josep Gomez.

Nevertheless, the Poles did score their second, and in impressive fashion. A pin-point cross from Lukasz Piszczek picked out Lewandowski who chested the ball before producing an exquisite bicycle kick to fire in his 14th international goal.

The situation went from bad to worse for Andorra when Marc Bernaus was penalised for a push on Blaszczykowski. The referee didn't hesitate in awarding the spot-kick which the 26-year-old duly converted to give Poland a convincing 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half would be a subdued affair, with a lack of scoring chances complemented with the number of substitutions made by both managers.

The best chance fell to 19-year-old Rafal Wolski, making only his third appearance for the national team. A fine attacking move found the Legia midfielder, though his shot was well saved by Gomez.

The victory was sealed late on when Wasilewski converted a penalty won by Artur Sobiech in the 77th minute.

Poland have won all three of their Euro 2012 warm-up matches without conceding a goal. They now turn their attention to the Group A opener against Greece next Friday at Stadion Narodowy.
