The Dutch trainer was full of praise for his side after they disposed of Phillip Cocu's side to maintain their Eredivisie title challenge
Ajax coach Frank de Boer has expressed his delight with his side’s performance after they defeated rivals PSV 2-0 on Sunday.
Goals from Ismail Aissati and Siem de Jong sealed the three points for the reigning Eredivisie champions and De Boer said he is proud of his team’s display and is happy with the way they kept their opponents under pressure for the entire game.
“I am a proud coach,” the former Ajax and Barcelona player told reporters after the match.
“We kept PSV under pressure for 94 minutes. This is the level we strive for and hopefully we can maintain this for the rest of the season.”
The 41-year-old continued to praise his side but admitted league leaders AZ are still favourites to win the Eredivisie title.
“I am so proud of what we have done on the field. We played well, but maybe we were just not decisive enough in the final stage.”
He added: “Of course it is an important step in the race for the championship, but AZ are still the favourites. They are still a point ahead."
The Amsterdam giants are now one point behind the Alkmaar side with seven games remaining.
