Ninety minutes decided nothing as Canada drew with Honduras 0-0 at BMO Field Tuesday evening.
Canada had its first-half chance as Dwayne De Rosario attempted a shot from the left side of the area in the 18th minute. The D.C. United star’s curling effort appeared to handcuff goalkeeper Noel Valladares, but the Honduran goalkeeper was able to make the save.
In the 26th minute a crowd of players gathered as De Rosario and Wilson Palacios got into a bit of a shoving match following a tackle Palacios felt was dirty. Referee Enrico Wijngaarde opted not to card either player or those who jumped in afterward.
Three minutes later, De Rosario cut in from the left side of the box, but his curling effort went well over the bar from a dangerous position.
On 32 minutes Atiba Hutchinson went on a marauding run through the middle, winning a free kick in at the edge of the area. He stepped up to take the set piece, but skied his effort well over the goal.
Five minutes from the end of the first half, Anthony Lozano struck the ball from close range after a nice piece of Honduran interplay. However, Lozano missed well wide to the relief of Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan.
Canada got its first chance of the second half from a Julian de Guzman free kick in the 57th minute. Hutchinson got on the end of the ball unmarked in the box, but his header was too weak, allowing Valladares to gather easily.
David Edgar came close to giving Canada the lead in the 68th minute, as he won a header in the box, only to see his effort go inches wide of the post.
Two minutes from time Roger Espinoza attempted a long-range effort, which went just over the bar.
In stoppage time, Kevin McKenna and Edgar both missed guilt-edged headers from corner kicks, meaning the match ended 0-0.
Canada now has four points in Group C of CONCACAF third round qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, next play in September against Panama.
