Manchester United have been boosted by the sight this morning of star striker Wayne Rooney in action on the training ground ahead of the second leg of his club's Champions League last-16 tie with AC Milan on Wednesday night.

The forward missed the Red Devils' weekend win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and his manager Sir Alex Ferguson had claimed that the England international was "a big doubt" for Wednesday's game.

Ferguson was angry that Rooney had played 90 minutes of last week's friendly international between England and Egypt after exacerbating a knee problem in the League Cup final victory over Aston Villa.

However, it now looks as though the indomitable striker, in blistering form this season, will take the field when United welcome Milan, and former player David Beckham, to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
