Premier League Preview: Tottenham - Newcastle
Injuries to both squads make predicting the line-ups a tricky task this week, however, the attacking ability of both remains strong and a goal-scoring affair should be expected

PROBABLE LINEUPS |
|
Tottenham
Friedel Walker, Dawson, King, Assou-Ekotto Kranjcar, Parker, Modric, Bale Van der Vaart Adebayor |
Newcastle
Krul Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon Ben Arfa, Guthrie, Perch, Jonas Ba, Cisse |
It's as hard as ever to second-guess Tottenham's team selection. We do know that William Gallas and Tom Huddlestone are definitely absent (and David Bentley for that matter).
Problems arise when judging the availability of Ledley King. He has featured in both of Tottenham's last two league games but his knee troubles are well documented. If he fails to make it in time for Newcastle, expect Younes Kaboul to return to action.
The return of Aaron Lennon, Rafael Van der Vaart and Jermain Defoe are all possible and so the attack could look slightly different, and infinitely more threatening, if Spurs are to have any luck.
As for Newcastle, Alan Pardew has a whole host of problems. Yohan Cabaye will be suspended, whilst Cheik Tiote is on his way to the African Nations Cup final with the Ivory Coast.
Injuries have curtailed the season of Steven Taylor and Sylvain Marveaux whereas Ryan Taylor and Leon Best both picked up injuries against Aston Villa and are therefore ruled out of the clash at White Hart Lane.

DID YOU KNOW? |
This will be the 147th meeting in all competitions between the two sides, with Tottenham edging it marginally with 61 wins to Newcastle's 53. There have been 32 draws.
- Newcastle have not beaten Spurs in their last four attempts, losing two and drawing the most recent two clashes.
- But recent history is mixed: the six games previous to that all went Newcastle's way. The Magpies scored 18 goals to Tottenham's seven.
- Demba Ba (pictured right) has scored the same number of Premier League goals as the rest of the team combined. The Senegalese has 16 so far this campaign, all in his previous 16 games.
- The clubs have shared a number of players down the years including in more modern times - Chris Waddle, Paul Gascoigne, Ruel Fox, Les Ferdinand, Stephen Carr, David Ginola, Jonathan Woodgate, Jermaine Jenas and Sebastian Bassong
- Emmanuel Adebayor is suffering something of a goal drought having not scored in the last nine games he has been available for.
- Newcastle's biggest win over Tottenham was the 7-1 thrashing in 1996 thanks to Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer's inspired doubles.
- Newcastle have won six times at White Hart Lane in the Premier League era - their joint-best record on the road against any side.
- However, Tottenham have lost just once in their last 29 home Premier League encounters.
- Spurs have also fired more shots at goal (155) than any other team in the Premier League.
