Lille 2-2 CSKA Moscow: Seydou Doumbia brace pinches a point for Russians
What looked to be a cruise for the Ligue 1 outfit proved to be a disappointment as the striker scored two late goals to pinch an unlikely point

Lille marked their return to the Champions League with a disappointing 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow in northern France.
A dominant first half showing only brought a goal on the eve of the interval as Moussa Sow backheeled home. Benoit Pedretti added to the hosts’ lead early in the second period. Seydou Doumbia pulled a goal back for the Russians with 18 minutes remaining, setting up a grandstand finish. Ten seconds from the end of 90 minutes, Doumbia struck again, saving a point for his side.
If the first quarter of an hour was rather eventless, the game came to life after Sow missed a glorious opportunity from six yards out, turning the ball over the bar after CSKA failed to clear a corner.
What followed was a very mature performance from the home side, who created a plethora of opportunities but could not find the net. The best of these fell to their erratic Senegalese striker, who tamely toed the ball wide when set free on goal by a deft pass from Ludovic Obraniak.
Though much of the home side’s play was very attractive, the opening goal was immensely scrappy. Again the Russians failed to adequately cope with a corner, and Sow cheekily diverted the ball into the net at the near post area.
Rudi Garcia’s men were given a stark reminder by their guests that the match was not over early in the second half. Vagner Love, by some distance the best player in the visitors’ ranks, drove at the home defence before setting up Tosic, whose first-time effort was turned onto the post by Mickael Landreau.
Spurred on by this threat, Lille soon added to their tally. A fluid passing move down the right opened up the CSKA defence, and the move was given the finale it deserved as Pedretti picked out the top corner after Eden Hazard cleverly dummied Florent Balmont’s pull-back.
Vladimir Gabulov, who had a thoroughly uncertain game in goal for the guests, would make a crucial save to prevent Marko Basa making the score 3-0 with a powerful shot from close range.
That block would ultimately allow the Muscovites to get back in the game when Doumbia bullied his way past Rozenhal before slotting home.
Right at the death, Doumbia latched onto a great flick from Alan Dzagoev to blast home a levelling goal, salvaging a point that looked impossible 20 minutes previously.
