Player Ratings: Napoli 2-0 Inter

Had very little to do in the first half, other than save a low drive from Sneijder, but earned his corn with a sensational double-stop right at the end. Also warrants credit for dealing with an awkward cross from Maicon late on.

Made a couple of timely interceptions during a relatively comfortable first half before really putting himself about during the closing stages. Solid.

Similar story for Cannavaro, who enjoyed a pretty comfortable ride in the first half before being called into action far more regularly in the second period, during which he almost gave away a penalty for bringing down Milito. Stood firm, though, for the most part.

Was a bit sloppy in possession and it was his loose pass which put Gargano in trouble during the opening period. He also should have done far better when picked out by Hamsik just before the break. Proved a lot more reliable in the second period, though.

Showed plenty of desire to get beyond Lavezzi down the left-hand side during the first half, a key factor in nullifying the threat posed by Maicon. Justified his selection ahead of Dossena.

Always a threat going forward but defensively suspect. Was turned a few times by Obi early on and was then booked for hauling down Sneijder. Wasted a glorious opportunity to open the scoring some 15 minutes in when he was put in by Hamsik.

A terrific snarling presence in the midfield, Gargano was constantly snapping at the heels of Sneijder and Motta. Indeed, Sneijder lashed out at him at one point. The moment which summed up his contribution came during the second half when he outmuscled Motta before spraying a 50-yard pass to Cavani.

Tremendously industrious performance from Inler, who ran himself into the ground before being hauled off with eight minutes to go. Put in a number of hefty challenges, the most notable of which came on Sneijder, and also distributed the ball well.

The Slovak headed wide early on from a decent position but then created a gilt-edged opening for Maggio with an exquisite ball in behind Chivu. Also laid the ball on a plate for Aronica later in the half. Faded as the game wore on, though.

Began very brightly indeed, setting up Hamsik with a fine cross while at the same time causing the Inter defence all sorts of problems with his movement and clever running. Nowhere near as effective in the second period, though, and was taken off on 65 minutes

Pulled off a remarkable save to deny Maggio but had no chance with the penalty and there was little he could have done about the second goal either. Dealt competently with everything else Napoli threw at him.

His surges down the right wing were a feature of last week's last 16 win over Genoa but he made no impression from an attacking perspective until the final quarter. Solid enough defensively despite being regularly outnumbered.

Fared reasonably well during the first period in the face of relentless Napoli attacks but still does not look the part. Was then turned inside out by Cavani for the second goal.

Inter's best defender, which isn't saying much. Made a number of timely and, at times, brave interceptions during the opening 45 minutes but was ultimately let down by those around him. Had a decent headed opening from a first-half corner.

Not his usual influential self. Never really offered much of an attacking threat during the first half. Improved slightly after the interval but not one for the scrapbook.

If this is to be his last game for Inter, it was hardly the way he would have hoped to sign off. Very nearly put Obi in with a raking ball over the top during the first half but otherwise struggled to impose himself. Failed to get on the end of an inviting corner from the left just after the break and then clumsily tripped Cavani in the area. Later suffered the ignominy of being outmuscled by Gargano.

Spent the first half doing his best to keep Napoli at bay but was pretty much outshone by the bite and energy of Gargano and Inler. Tried to exert himself more on proceedings in the second period and very nearly forced an equaliser but, overall, not a great showing.

Caused Maggio a couple of problems with his quick feet and ability to turn on a sixpence but was, for the most part, pretty ineffective. Was outmuscled trying to get on Thiago Motta’s ball over the top and also had a horribly wayward shot from distance.

Still looks off the pace after his recent injury lay-off. Saw little of the ball in the first period and when he did secure possession in an attacking area, he shot tamely on goal with runners all around him. Became increasingly frustrated as the half wore on and should have been sent off for his studs-up challenge on Gargano. Went close with a fine drive from distance in the second period before then setting up Alvarez for Inter's best chance of the game.

Completely isolated during the first half, though he worked tirelessly and managed to instigate a counter by dispossessing Aronica at one point. More involved in the second period and probably should have had a penalty when he appeared to be dragged down by Maggio in the area before being denied by De Sanctis right at the death.
