Goal.com rates the players on show as the Elephants finally fulfill their potential in a dominant win over the co-hosts
By Tom Webber
Completely misjudged a cross shortly before half time and looked shaky for much of the game. Saved from Randy before the break to hold the lead and was barely tested in the second period.
His delivery was fairly inconsistent but his forward runs offered the Elephants a great deal of width down the left alongside Max Gradel. He was not really tested defensively against the impotent opposition.
The captain did not put a foot wrong all night in what was an extremely comfortable game for the Elephants' defence. Rarely tested by the co-hosts' attack but did what he had to do with typical efficiency.
Played his part in a defence that is still yet to concede this tournament. He could have perhaps added a bit more to the attack from set-pieces but Balboa stood no chance against the imposing central defensive duo.
A great surging forward run earned the penalty when he was brought down in the box. An efficient yet unspectacular display as he helped provide the stability at the back that shut out Equatorial Guinea.
Used the ball well early on and kept the game flowing well from left-back. He occasionally wandered out of position which may have caused issues against fiercer opposition.
A series of short simple passes from the deep-lying midfielder. Rarely contributed a vertical pass but was not selected for that reason. Made some key challenges across the pitch to help contribute to the solidity of the defence.
Used his pace well to get in behind and run at defenders. Spurned a great chance in the 24th minute, failing to let the ball sit before striking it. Played less of a role in the second half but proved a good choice wide on the left.
He struggled to influence the game from open play but with the pressure on his set-pieces were spectacular. A great delivery for Drogba's second goal was followed by a beautifully placed free kick in the final 10 minutes that no goalkeeper would have ever saved.
Always looked to run at players but not was not always successful. He was hesitant on the ball at times and his touch was not always up to scratch. You cannot fault his determination but he lacked quality on the night.
His flick on led to the penalty which he then missed. Showed his class to pick himself up and produced a great finish in the 36th minute. He then added a thumping header from to score his 54th international goal with 20 minutes remaining.
Did not have enough time to make an impact on the game.
Brought on with five minutes remaining and had no opportunity to make an impact.
Managed to get himself into a couple of goal scoring opportunities in the final 10 minutes but managed to spurn them both. Looked sharp but lacked the killer touch.
Not fazed by Drogba when coming to collect the ball in the 25th minute and then came out on top again four minutes later from the penalty spot. Had no chance of reaching any of the three immaculately placed goals.
Always looked to get the ball into the box from out on the right flank and attacked well without being neglecting his defensive duties. Overstretched for a clearance and caused himself an injury that prematurely ended his game.
Looked fairly solid until his poor touch let Drogba for the game opening goal. He made some good challenges but after his mistake there was no coming back for the co-hosts.
Closed the space well and came out on top in his battle with Gervinho more often than not. He showed great determination but was careless with his distribution at times.
Conceded the penalty with his weak and clumsy challenge. He was tireless in the midfield and kept Yaya Toure out of the game for large parts until the Manchester City midfielder showed his class from dead-ball situations.
Coped well as the last mean, making some crucial interceptions but occasionally careless on the ball. Lost his footing when chasing Drogba for the first goal and his marking of the Chelsea striker was abysmal for his second.
Looked full of energy in the opening stages but faded as they half went on. The captain's main contribution was helping keep Yaya Toure out of the game but the plan proved flawed come the full time whistle.
He provided a couple of moments of flair in the second half but they did not contribute much. He was non-existent as the Afcon debutants only outlet in attack and never looked like beating Kolo Toure or Bamba.
Pounced on Gosso's 17th minute slip but failed to find Balboa with his pass. Hardly offered anything else to the attack and was substituted with just over 70 minutes gone.
Lovely backheel in the 35th minute and pressed hard on the Ivorian defence but he was largely ineffectual and was withdrawn at half time.
His touch often let him down throughout, especially from Kily's cross in the 15th minute. Far too casual when offered a chance to shoot from distance in the 39th minute but pulled a save from Barry with a better effort moments before half time.
Looked very lively with some great dribbles but they never led to anything greater.
Added an extra outlet to the Equatorial Guinea attack but did not receive enough supply from his team mates to make a difference.
Came on in the 85th minute and did not have enough time to make an impact.
