World Cup 2010: Parma Defender Christian Panucci Warns Roma Star Francesco Totti Against Potential Italy Return
Panucci thinks it’s not fair of ‘Er Pupone’ to come out of international retirement right before the World Cup…

Totti quit international football in the wake of Italy’s triumph at Germany 2006, but has recently left the door open for a sensational rethink.
“Oh no, dear Francesco!” said Panucci, emphatically showing his opposition to the move in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.
“If you get back into the Nazionale and I were the one to lose the place after having fought to qualify for two years, I’d be very angry.
“Totti is a great player who is still fit. But if I say that I’m done with the Nazionale, I have to be coherent and not go back.
“In the end I hope the best decision will be made. But should I be left at home, I’d drive by Viareggio to ask for explanations…”
Viareggio is the hometown of Nazionale coach Marcello Lippi, Panucci’s ‘nemesis’ who incredibly left the defender out of his squad in 2006 after the duo fell out at Inter in 1999-2000.
Panucci spent a single season at San Siro and will welcome his former side to the Tardini this weekend.
“Do I have any good memories?” he wondered. “Breakfast in Milan, the highway and then the Appiano Gentile’s gates opened and I was dying to get out…”
