Cagliari Boss Massimiliano Allegri Welcomes Juventus Link
Renewed interest from the Old Lady flatters the up-and-coming tactician…
By Vince Masiello
The 42-year-old was in the frame to become the new Bianconeri boss before the Corso Galileo Ferraris directors opted to give the nod to Ciro Ferrara on a permanent basis.
Their decision backfired as Ferrara has already been shown the door after a dismal run of results while Allegri is still working miracles in Sardinia, with the unfancied Rossoblù already on the verge of securing their top-flight status.
Juve have hired Alberto Zaccheroni to replace Ferrara but the ex-Milan and Inter coach is unlikely to stay on beyond this season and the club directors have already drawn up a short-list of replacements.
Allegri’s name is said to feature prominently on it, and he told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper: “I’d be a hypocrite if I said that this interest does not please me.
“But I am aware of the reality of things and of the big responsibility I have. We still have four months ahead of us and with the club and the team we must keep giving satisfaction to our fans.”
Allegri is tied to Cagliari until June 2011 but President Massimo Cellino is allegedly prepared to release him if a top side knocked on his door.
