Christian Abbiati Is Sure Milan Will Win Serie A Title
The shot-stopper is having a deja-vu…
By Vince Masiello
The Rossoneri have climbed to within four points of their city rivals thanks to their midweek win at Fiorentina and the goalkeeper is convinced history is about to repeat itself.
“I’m sure Milan will win the Scudetto,” he told Tuttosport newspaper.
“This season reminds me of that which led to the title we won in 1999 with [Alberto] Zaccheroni as our boss.”
Milan pipped Lazio to the Italian title in 1998-99 despite finding themselves seven points behind the Biancocelesti in March.
Zaccheroni’s men mounted a stirring comeback in the final weeks of the campaign and Abbiati’s heroics often proved decisive after he took over the goalkeeping duties from Sebastiano Rossi.
The 32-year-old has recently forced his way back into Leonardo’s starting line-up, and added: “Back then I also claimed a starting place midway through the season. So, I believe in the Scudetto…”
