Milan have abandoned the chase for Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko because they can't afford him, according to Il Sussidiario.net.

Marco Borriello's impressive season, and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's continued improvement have influenced decisions at Via Turati, and the club have decided they no longer need the Bosnian hitman.

Milan were in talks with Dzeko last year and, despite a summer of negotiating, they failed to land him. One of the reasons was his high price tag, which has now increased to €40 million, fuelling speculation that the Italians will not spend that amount on one player.

Dzeko's agent Irfan Redzepagic feels the Rossoneri will find it less than easy to persuade Wolfsburg unless they offer a mega deal.

"I think Milan would have difficulty in meeting the €40m recissionary clause for Dzeko. An agreement with Milan is very far," the agent said.
