Serie A Round 22 Results: Fiorentina edge out Udinese in Tuscan thriller, Palermo press on against Atalanta

An action-packed Sunday afternoon was in store following the FIGC's decision to reschedule the weekends' football, although it was the 'lesser' fixtures which stole the imagination

Palermo 2-1 Atalanta

Palermo's recent revival is showing no signs of letting down, after a goal either side of half time gave the Rosanero a 2-1 win over Atalanta on Sunday.

The hosts took the lead on 29 minutes from the penalty spot, courtesy of Fabrizio Miccoli, after he drew a foul from goalkeeper Andrea Consigli, who was subsequently red-carded for bringing down the diminutive forward, before getting back up to net the resulting spot-kick

Just five minutes after the restart, Igor Budan continued his rich vein of form by scoring the second for Palermo, albeit from close range to extend his side's strangehold on the match.

However, despite an instant reply from Maxi Moralez on 57 minutes Bortolo Mutti's side held out to make it three wins in four matches and move up to seventh in the Serie A table. Atalanta, meanwhile, sit in 14th.
Novara 0-0 Cagliari
Novara will count themselves unlucky after they were denied of a deserved victory by Cagliari, in a 0-0 draw on Sunday which sees the new boys still without a win in 2012.

Despite the visitors' overriding possession in the encounter, Giuseppe Mascara was the guilty party after missing several chances, while Santiago Garcia's long-range piledriver was inches away from giving Emiliano Mondonico a first three points.

Cagliari improved as the match wore on, but a goalless draw was to prove the just outcome, as the hosts' remain rooted to the Serie A table, while Cagliari find themselves in 11th.
Chievo 1-2 Parma


Parma made it four games unbeaten under Roberto Donadoni, after beating Chievo 2-1 in Sunday's Emilia-Romagna derby.

Sebastian Giovinco bagged his 11th goal of the season on the shade of half time, as he struck past Stefano Sorrentino with aplomb, but Cyril Thereau was on hand to grab the equaliser just five minutes later for the Flying Donkeys.

The win was eventually earned by Parma, thanks to an own goal from Luciano, who diverted Giovinco's shot into his own net. The Gialloblu now go 12th in Serie A, but Chievo drop one place below them.
Juventus 0-0 Siena

Lecce 0-0 Bologna


Lecce and Bologna settled for a goalless draw on Sunday, as both sides fired blanks at the Via del Mare despite their recent good form.

The Giallorossi had the best chances of the first half, with Luis Muriel and David Di Michele coming close to breaking their duck. Their efforts were to no avail, however with the Colombian forward failing to net an open goal.

The second half fared marginally better for the visitors, but Gaston Ramirez's strike was the only noteworthy attempt from Stefano Pioli's side, as Lecce remain 19th, while Bologna climb to 16th place.
Fiorentina 3-2 Udinese

Fiorentina won consecutive games for the first time this season after downing Udinese 3-2 in a gripping contest at the Artemio Franchi on Sunday.

The Zebrette broke the deadlock after just 14 minutes through Antonio Di Natale, who lobbed Bodgan Lobont directly from Riccardo Montolivo's mistake, but Stevan Jovetic continued his impressive campaign by netting from the penalty spot via Mehdi Benatia's handball on the edge of half time.

Mattia Cassani's header made it 2-1 to Fiorentina on 56 minutes, before Jovetic again got on the scoresheet, scoring a second penalty from another Benatia misjudgment to hand the Viola all three points with six minutes remaining, despite Gabriel Torje's late consolation.

Udinese stay in fourth and miss out on a golden opportunity to move within one point of Juventus, while Fiorentina move to 10th.
