Daniele De Rossi becomes highest paid Italian after Roma extension - report
The Giallorossi star has leapfrogged Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon as the Serie A's top Italian earner after penning a new long-term deal earlier this week
The Italy international inked a new deal with the Stadio Olimpico outfit until June 2017 earlier this week, and will earn €6.5 million under the terms of the agreement.
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who was the previous highest paid Italian in Serie A, currently is on an annual salary of €6m at the Bianconeri.
De Rossi is not the Italian league's top earner yet following his recent pay rise as AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic earns €9m per year plus €3m in bonuses.
Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder is believed to be on €6m per annum.
The 28-year-old De Rossi allegedly held talks with Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Anzhi Makhachkala in the past few weeks, but turned down the chance to earn €10m per year abroad.
