Former Napoli striker Bruno Giordano has claimed that Diego Maradona would love to return to the Naples-based club as coach in the near future.

The two played together for the Partenopei in the 1980s and were both instrumental in helping Napoli pick up their first Scudetto title in 1987.

Giordano and Maradona have been close friends since and the former Italian international claims the current coach of Al Wasl would jump at the chance to return to their old club.

"Maradona dreams of returning to Naples. He has become a very good trainer and deserves to be at a top club in Europe," the 55-year-old told Calciomercato.

"Diego is now a coach who has evolved, he takes care of every detail and spends five to six hours a day on the field. He follows all Napoli matches and a player he loves is [Ezequiel] Lavezzi."

Maradona enjoyed seven seasons in Naples, making 188 Serie A appearances and scoring 81 league goals in the process.
