Cruzeiro's Wallyson delighted to finish as joint-top scorer in the Copa Libertadores & admits he was hoping Neymar did not score in the final

The 21-year-old has conceded he didn't want Neymar to surpass his tally & thanked his team-mates for helping him end up as one of two leading marksmen.

Cruzeiro forward Wallyson began Wednesday evening as the Copa Libertadores 2011's seven-goal joint-leading marksman alongside Roberto Nanni of Cerro Porteno.

The two, of course, were uninvolved in the tournament's concluding match, but that didn't prevent the 21-year-old Brazilian, whose team were surprisingly eliminated by Once Caldas in the last 16, having a keen interest in proceedings at the Pacaembu.

He was, indeed, glued to the television, eager to finish as top scorer and worried Neymar of Santos or Penarol's Juan Olivera, who both had five goals to their name upon kick-off, would surpass his tally. And though the latter drew a blank in Sao Paulo, the former broke the deadlock and came within whiskers of scoring for the seventh time in the competition by hitting the post.

“I almost fell off the bed when that happened!” Wallyson exclaimed. That was as close as Neymar came to a second goal, though, and the former Atletico-PR player, along with Neymar, therefore ended up top of the pile.

“I am very happy to have finished as one of the top scorers,” said Wallyson. It's a shame our team didn't play in the final, like we all wanted.

“The target was to reach the final, I had a a lot of confidence [we would]. Unfortunately we didn't progress. But I'm happy to have finished as one of the top scorers and I thank everyone who helped me achieve this.”
