Champions League : Marouane Chamakh (Bordeaux)
Ligue 1 champions Girondins de Bordeaux have received some mixed news regarding contract extensions for their current players, with Marouane Chamakh indicating that he will leave the Stade Chaban-Delmas outfit on a free transfer come the summer whilst Fernando Menegazzo has states that he is ready to stay.

Chamakh scored in les Girondins’ come-from-behind success against Grenoble on Wednesday night but would appear to be nearing a move to the English Premier League, where Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham United and Sunderland have all been linked with a move for his services over the last nine months. It is now the Reds who appear favourites to sign the French-born Moroccan international.

“I will not extend [my Bordeaux deal],” he said to France Football. “I’ll know more this weekend when I’ve talked to my advisors. I believe things must be said quickly. I believe also that the club must be set.”

The 26-year-old, who rose through the youth ranks of the Garonne club, has seven goals to date this season.

In better news, Fernando is closing in on a deal to keep him in the west of France, having been heavily linked with a switch to Genoa earlier this month. He has found more regular playing time and would appear to be somewhat more settled.

“I will stay in Bordeaux,” he stated. “The club has refused all offers and there is a final meeting scheduled with the board regarding my extension at the end of next week.”

Predicting the words of Chamakh, the French media have already linked les Girondins with a move for several other forwards, including Loic Remy of Nice and Louis Saha of Everton.
