According to Tuscan daily La Nazione, Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano will undergo a medical with Fiorentina this morning before completing a switch to the Artemio Franchi.

The 27-year-old is expected to join the Viola in a loan deal, with Samp retaining the option to re-sign him next summer.

Fiorentina have decided to move for Cassano after Romanian international striker Adrian Mutu was handed a temporary ban by Coni (the Italian Olympic Committee) after failing two drugs tests.

Cassano had recently been frozen out of the Sampdoria squad after falling out with boss Gigi Del Neri.

Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino reportedly agreed terms with Samp yesterday afternoon after Villarreal refused to release Italian international Giuseppe Rossi.

If everything goes according to plan and Cassano becomes a Fiorentina player before the winter transfer window ends on Monday night, the former Roma and Real Madrid man could make his debut when the Gigliati pay a visit to Inter in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia next Wednesday.
