Catalans hopeful of capturing Gunners skipper in summer...

Barcelona are reportedly closing in on the £60 million capture of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

The Sunday Mirror claims that sources within the Camp Nou are confident of securing the 22-year-old's signature this summer, with the player collecting a cool £160,000 per week wages, in addition to a £9m signing-on fee.

Fabregas left Barcelona as a 17-year-old to join Arsene Wenger's men, but has been repeatedly linked with a move back to the Catalan giants, increasingly so as the Gunners have endured a five-year spell without a trophy.

Only last week Barca president Joan Laporta publicly denied making an official approach for Fabregas, whilst further reports suggested that Arsenal officials have written to their Barcelona counterparts urging them to avoid fuelling speculation about a potential transfer.

But according to the Mirror a senior Barcelona source said: “It’s no longer a question of if but when Fabregas comes home.

“Arsenal are in no position to compete with the package on offer, although the desire of the player to come back far outweighs the financial rewards involved.”

Fabregas distanced himself from the speculation following his side's 1-0 win over Liverpool on Wednesday, but it is believed that the Spaniard would welcome a return to his homeland, and the player's father added to the fire by claiming his son would consider his future at Arsenal in the summer.
