Sunderland are poised to beat Everton in the chase for Sweden’s two brightest young talents in the shape of BK Hacken's youth internationals Emilio Rossi and Nikola Ladan, Goal.com can reveal.

The Premier League club's hierarchy are weighing up moves for the young team-mates and could attempt to bring the highly-rated pair to the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window.

Sunderland’s scouts have been carefully monitoring the pair and, with interest in the duo intensifying, the Wearside club may attempt to finalise a deal early in the New Year to fend off rival suitors.

Fellow Premier League side Everton have also been watching Rossi and Ladan, as have Championship teams West Ham United and Leicester City, although the latter’s interest may have cooled following the sacking of Swedish manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Goal.com has learned from Sunderland sources that they are “on the radar” and their representative, Godfrey K Torto, has admitted that he is not surprised that there has been widespread interest in the players.

“It is of no surprise that clubs not only in England but across Europe would be interested in the boys,” Torto told Goal.com.

“I’m sure many clubs would like these young exciting players to be part of their squads. Both have had great seasons, but Emilio’s achievements have been fantastic.”

The 19-year-old Rossi is a left-sided attacking player while the 18-year-old Ladan, who has represented his country at Under-18 level, is a central midfielder.

Sunderland may be struggling in the Premier League at the moment, but manager Steve Bruce has a reputation of being able to nurture young talent, with Danny Welbeck having excelled under his auspices while on loan on Wearside from Manchester United last season.

While there is no overt policy of looking to invest in young talent from overseas, Sunderland chairman Ellis Short demonstrated that he was ready to gamble on young players by paying Ipswich £8 million for Connor Wickham last summer.
