Benfica reportedly weigh up move for Juventus' Elia
The Dutch attacker has been a bit-part player at the Serie A club, which has alerted the attention of the Portuguese club, who are keen on signing a new winger
Benfica are weighing up the merits of a summer move for Juventus out-of-favour attacker Eljero Elia, A BOLA reports. The Portuguese giants are understood to be in the market for a new right-sided winger as they plan for life without Nicolas Gaitan, who has been strongly linked to Manchester United.
Atletico Madrid attacker Eduardo Salvio has been suggested as a strong possibility after he played for the club on loan in 2010-11, but Benfica are looking at alternatives to the Argentine.
Elia joined Juventus from Hamburg last summer in a €9 million deal, but he has been on the fringes of the action at the Serie A club, having so far made just four competitive appearances for the Bianconeri.
Italian sources suggested last month that Juventus offered Elia to Bundesliga duo Schalke and Wolfsburg in an attempt to raise money for their own summer transfers.
