VALENCIA
Miguel Angel Moya - 8: He made a number of crucial saves when Racing looked certain to score and was very good in the air.
Joel - 6.5: Easily beaten on a couple of occasions when he was caught ball watching but overall it was a fine performance from the youngster.
David Navarro - 4.5: Eventually harshly sent off but he was roasted by Canales on a few occasions, gave away needless free kicks and didn't have a good night.
Angel Dealbert - 6: A couple of dodgy moments in the first half but he recovered well even if some of his defending was of the last ditch variety.
Alexis - 6.5: Largely absent in an attacking sense unlike Mathieu but solid at the back.
Ruben Baraja - 6.5: A rare start for the veteran. Tired in the latter stages but overall it was a good performance.
Hedwiges Maduro - 6: Some hefty, awkward challenges but he broke down a lot of Racing's counterattacks.
Pablo Hernandez - 5.5: Endless energy and always willing to get on the ball but his passing was atrocious from start to finish.
David Silva - 6.5: Surprised to see him replaced. Possibly injured. Showed some terrific skill and looked a real threat until he was replaced.
Juan Mata - 6.5: Worked extremely hard in attack and defence but did nothing spectacular.
David Villa - 6: A couple of sights on goal lacked his usual clinical qualities. Otherwise an uninspiring performance from the stand-in captain.
Substitutes
Chori Dominguez - 6: Looked dangerous in possession but seemed more intent on fashioning a penalty than creating a scoring chance.
Manuel Fernandes - 6.5: Solid defensively. Especially after Valencia went down to ten men.
Joaquin - 6: One or two decent moments, possible penalty shout but little else of note.
RACING SANTANDER
Fabio Coltorti - 6.5: Solid when called upon but didn't really have much to do against a misfiring Che.
Christian - 5.5: Never looked comfortable and was given a serious test by Pablo but the poor delivery got him off the hook on a number of occasions.
Oriol - 6.5: A fine defensive display to stifle Los Che's dangerous attack. Kept Villa quiet for most of the game.
Henrique - 6.5: Very strong in the air and was part of a well organised defence.
Pablo Pinillos - 6.5: Good battle with Mata and overall probably got the better of his opposite number with most of Valencia's good work on the other wing.
Gonzalo Colsa - 6.5: Energetic performance. Covered a lot of ground and gave a good account of himself overall.
Oscar Serrano - 6: Nothing spectacular of note but didn't have a bad game.
Sergio Canales - 8: The best player on show. Great skill, energy and effort and was central to everything Racing did but probably should have scored at least one to top a fine performance.
Manuel Arana - 6.5: Some good movement to create openings in the Valencia defence. Needed to be better with the final ball.
Papakouli Diop - 7: Tireless and unselfish with his runs. Did a lot of the thankless running up front to create space for Canales to run into.
Mohamed Tchite - 6.5: Got himself into some good positions and was a handful for the Valencia defence but his finishing left a lot to be desired.
Substitutes
Toni Moral - 6: Did little to change the complexion of the game but looked decent in possession in his limited role.
Pedro Munitis - 6.5: Typically hard working performance when he came in.
