Barcelona's Seydou Keita: If Real Madrid Are Behind Us, It's Because We Are Better
Seydou Keita has rubbished the possibility of referee favouritism...
By Cyrus C. Malek
Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita gave a press conference today expressing the fact that the Barcelona team is not concerned with the decisions made by referees.
Keita told the press that: "If [Real] Madrid are behind, it is because we are better. If one speaks of referees it is probably to destabilise us, because we are leaders and we are better," according to AS.
According to the Malian, referees "are human and can be wrong but they are there to work and not to help Barca, Madrid or any other team". But despite Barca's five-point advantage, Keita emphasised that the Blaugrana cannot afford to relax. "Less than two matches separate us and there are 18 left. We can only continue to work hard and fight to win all of our matches."
Barcelona have now gone 20 matches without losing, a streak Keita says can "end at any moment" even though there are players that "always have the mentality of winning every match".
Also questioned about the African Cup of Nations, and particularly about the terrorist attack on the Togo national team, Keita believed the decision to keep the African nation out of the competition was "unjust". "I hope that CAF lifts the decision. One goes to the African Cup to play, not to die," said Keita, who emphasised that terrorism was a problem more common in Angola then in Africa in general.
