Referees Are Doing Their Best - Barcelona Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain

Barcelona Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain has refused to criticise the performance of the officials, in the aftermath of the nine-man Blaugrana defeating Getafe 2-1 at the Camp Nou on Saturday evening.
Gerard Pique was given his marching orders in the first half for a strong challenge, while Rafael Marquez was dismissed in stoppage time, conceding a penalty kick in the process.
With injuries also incurred by Yaya Torue and Dani Alves, the league leaders will be short of options for their next run of fixtures, but Begiristain refuted the notion that referees are not of a suitable standard in the Primera Division.
Marca reports that he said of the match, “It’s a pity that after a fantastic display against Sporting [Gijon], where we played wonderful football, we end up talking all week about referees and not the match.
“The referees are doing their best, and the campaigns against them are intolerable. [Gerard] Pique’s challenge was a strong one, but I do not know if it is a red card. Until that point we were dominating the match and playing very well.”
Returning defender Gabriel Milito added that he believed that the media in Spain have exerted an influence over the constant critique of the officiating in the league.
He commented, “I have no intention of talking about the refereeing. There many things that the media have shown, and it seems everyone has their own opinion.”
