Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has revealed concern that the imminent return of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain could spoil a return to his old stomping ground next week.

Speaking to L'Equipe ahead of next week's round of 16 clash against his former club Lyon, the Frenchman revealed he was concerned for his first-team place, admitting he may have to spend his return to Stade Gerland on the bench.

"It's a shame,” he said, “I always say that a player who does not want to play should be devoted, as a professional I always am and I'm ready to play against Lyon."

Despite appearing in 19 of Real’s 21 league games this season, Benzema has been in and out of the first-team with CR9 and Higuain seemingly ahead of the 22-year-old in the pecking order.

The French international went on to remind his coach that he was fit and in good form, working hard for the team in Real's last two fixtures against Deportivo and Espanyol respectively.

"I ran very well in those games,"he said, adding,"and that benefits me in my game and in my movement."
