Inter And Barcelona Were Also In The Race To Sign Cristiano Ronaldo - Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has revealed that both Inter and Barcelona also showed interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United last summer.
The Portuguese star moved to the Santiago Bernabeu and became the most expensive transfer in football history when los Blancos paid approximately €94 million for his services.
"Cristiano came to an agreement with Manchester United for a transfer to Real on December 8, 2008. During last summer there was no negotiation, everything was already concluded," he said to in an interview with Eurosport.
The 58-year-old went on to explain that it was the player who eventually made the final decision to honour his previous agreement with the Spanish giants.
"The player accepted a clause of €30 million in case the transfer failed, but Inter and Barcelona also entered the race," he continued.
"The Red Devils were willing to resolve that clause for those two clubs and not sell to Real. Everyone knows there is not a good relationship between the two clubs [Manchester United and Real Madrid].
"However, the situation was eventually resolved by Cristiano himself, who remained faithful to [his deal with] Real Madrid."
Calderon resigned as president in early 2009, after allegations of vote-rigging and was eventually replaced by Florentino Perez.
