German international Philipp Lahm believes that his team-mate Franck Ribery, who has been rumoured to be seeking a summer exit to either Barcelona or Real Madrid next summer, will stay at Bayern Munich, but also expressed that if the Frenchman's desire is to leave, the Bavarian club should let him go.
In comments published by Kicker, the German defender said that he understands why Ribery would base his future in Germany on the condition that Bayern develop a more competitive squad and added that the German club is "on the right track" to putting together a team that can compete in Europe and thus Lahm is "convinced that Ribery will stay".
However, Lahm also added that if Ribery decides not to renew his contract, the club should allow him to leave at the end of the season, when Bayern would still be able to collect a handsome transfer fee for the Frenchman that could then be invested in bringing in other talented players.
As for his own future, Lahm said that the rumours of him leaving to a big club in Europe are done and over with.
"For me, the issue of Barcelona is finished. We are on the right path, on the one I have always wanted to be on."
