"It is a great day for me," said Pique in a statement relayed by Marca. "The truth is that I do not see myself wearing another shirt. I hope to be here for many years. I want to be here for the rest of my career."
Pique also praised his coach Pep Guardiola to whom he was very grateful for all the faith he had shown in him.
"When one is young, one can become distracted and overconfident. With Pep we have always understood that we need to keep our feet on the ground."
Pique is a Barcelona youth product, but was allowed to leave the club to sign his first professional contract with Manchester United. After four years with the Red Devils during which he spent one season on loan at Zaragoza, Pique chose to return to Barcelona and has been a towering presence both in the Barcelona and Spanish national team rearguard.
The €200 million release clause in the player's newly signed contract reflects his enormous value to his club.
