Former Real Madrid playmaker Guti has stated that the Copa del Rey final should never be played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spanish FA (RFEF) is set to announce the venue for the final, which is be contested between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona, and the 35-year-old feels it should not take place in Madrid.

"The Copa del Rey final should never be at the Bernabeu," the former Besiktas man wrote on Twitter. "Why couldn't Real Madrid play against Zaragoza at Camp Nou?"

"Why do Madrid always have to give?" he added soon afterwards. "We are gentlemen, but at some point we have to think of ourselves and decide because the Bernabeu is ours."

Last season, the competition's final was helf at Mestalla, and was contested by Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Starting in November and continuing through to the middle of February, Goal.com is publishing exclusive extracts from Graham Hunter's highly-anticipated new book, 'Barca: The Making of the Greatest Team in the World'. The last extract looked at how Barca suffered rare disappointment at the hands of Real Madrid in a gripping finale to last season's Copa del Rey. Don't miss it!
