Iran: Ali Daei Turned Down Sepahan And Steel Azin Before Persepolis Appointment
Daei has been in demand...
The former Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin striker was appointed to take the Persepolis job on Monday to replace Zlatko Kranjcar.
He told reporters in Dubai, where the Reds are holding a training camp, that he had been in demand since being fired as coach of Iran in March.
“Sepahan of Isfahan and Steel Azin offered me to take charge of their teams. I didn’t want to come back to football at that time,” Daei said according to Mehr News Agency.
Persepolis are in third in the league and ten points behind leaders Sepahan.
“In my opinion taking charge of a well-prepared team is not a big job. I’ve come here to assist in Persepolis’ come back into contention. You have to help a team in times of crisis,” he added.
“We are aiming at winning Iran’s Hazfi Cup and advancing to next year’s Asian Champions League. I think Persepolis has potential to do that.
"Our players must know that whoever is better will be in the starting list,” Daei concluded.
