Experienced tactician, K. Devan succumbed to the pressure of maintaining high standards with the prestigious side and his resignation did not come as a shock to many.

Nonetheless, colossal changes have been made during the off-season and with someone like Irfan Bakti at the helm, 2012 could be Selangor’s year. As mentioned, a squad revamp took place during off-season with the likes of Hardi Jaafar and Rudie Ramli all being released.

To level up the loss, Selangor have drafted in several teenage sensations in the form of K. Gurusamy, Wan Mohd Hoesne Wan Hussein and Adi Aizuddin, to add that little bit of fresh air into the team.

K. Gurusamy has already been labeled by Irfan Bakti as a gem of his kind and he is expected to add stability into the Selangor midfield alongside talismanic captain Safiq Rahim.

To add to this, they have also snapped up Lebanon international defender Ramez Dayoub, who is easily one of the most consistent defenders in the Middle East. Congolese forward Lelo Mbele has also joined the Red Giants for the upcoming season, adding the much needed threat upfront.

Expectations will be towering high and with the re-introduction of Singapore into the Super League, a nostalgic rivalry will be renewed once again. As far as Irfan Bakti is concerned, he will be facing the challenge of plotting Selangor’s domination this year.
