SPECIAL
By Khairul Nizam Arifin
This year will be an interesting 12 months for Negeri Sembilan as they prepare to face daunting challenges without several talismanic players that left during off-season.

The likes of Aidil Zafuan, Zaquan Adha and Hairuddin Omar have all left the ‘Deers’ and it will be crucial for Negeri to bounce back from the disappointment of losing their top stars.
However, coach Azraai Khor, who is also well known for his ability to breed talented youngsters, seems to be continuing his tradition this year. He has already snapped up promising striker Ahmad Shakir Ali and midfielders Mohd Bukhairi Idris and V.Parameswaran, with all of them showing great competency during their friendly matches.
The signing of former Harimau Muda A striker Ahmad Shakir Ali has triggered plenty of excitement. The flamboyant forward is regarded as a pure talent and the move is already appearing to be a major coup for Negeri, with him smashing in plenty of goals in all their friendly matches so far.
However, they will only have one foreign player this season in the form of Cameroon striker Emmanuel Offa Owona after Marqueen Goncalves’ registration was not approved. The former Hatta Club forward has already been touted as the next Christian Bekamenga, who was hugely popular with the Negeri Sembilan fans during his tenure.
On paper, it might seem a little deceiving for fans. While there has been a major squad revamp, the backbone of it has been retained with the likes of Shahurain Abu Samah, Tengku Qayyum Ubaidullah, S.Kunanlan and skipper Mohd Shukor Adan all staying put.
Having said all these, Negeri would definitely have to be at their level best in order to compete on all fronts. Last season itself, the Deers were largely disappointing in the Super League and if that run of form continues this year, it could be a tricky campaign for them
