Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel appeared to be on his way out of Bayern Munich after the arrival of Anatoliy Tymoshchuk last summer, but the holding midfielder has fought his way back into the starting XI of the Bavarians.

Van Bommel has made 13 Bundesliga appearances so far this season and has been a key member of Louis van Gaal's side. However, the 32-year-old has an expiring contract at Bayern and could be on his way back to Holland in the near future.

According to a report in Spox, van Bommel could sign a new one-year deal with the Bavarians in the upcoming weeks, but will return to PSV after his spell at Bayern in order to end his career with the Eindhoven side.

The holding midfielder started his professional career at Fortuna Sittard, but rose to prominence at PSV. Van Bommel wore the jersey of the Dutch powerhouse from 1999 to 2005. He promised that he'd return to Eindhoven one day when he left PSV for Barcelona.
