Schalke fans have announced their intention to boycott the club’s upcoming Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen because of the extortionate prices they are being asked to pay for a ticket to the game in Prague.

The round of 32 encounter will be staged at the Eden Stadion and visiting fans are being asked to stump up €110 for a lowest category seat which would usually cost just €40, much to the disgust of Rolf Rojek, a representative of the Bundesliga outfit’s fan club.

"We are boycotting this game,” he declared in Bild. "This isn't the Champions League final and the prices are just usurious.

"We want to make a statement with our protest and fight for all football fans in Germany."

Schalke meet Viktoria in Prague on February 16 before colliding again in Gelsenkirchen seven days later.
