Juan Arango and Borussia Monchengladbach have reached an agreement over a contract extension, the club announced on their official website.

The 31-year-old midfielder has played an integral role in his team's surprise success this season, and with his previous deal set to expire at season's end, his future was uncertain.

But on Friday, Gladbach revealed that Arango had agreed to sign a two-year contract extension, which will expire in 2014.

"Juan Arango is one of the best midfielders in the league and is a very important character for us," sporting director Max Eberl told his club's official website. "Therefore we are very pleased that we could tie him to us for two more years."

Gladbach received two hefty blows in January as stars Marco Reus and Roman Neustadter confirmed their summer departures. Dante could also leave due to a buy-out clause in his contract, however, the club at least convinced Arango to stay.

Gladbach are currently fourth in the Bundesliga table. They next face Schalke on Saturday at the Borussia-Park. Kick-off is scheduled for 18.30CET.
