Heartland’s Chibuzor Okonkwo guaranteed of Nigeria starting role
The right-back is expected to win the shirt when he gets into the Eagles camp next week after unsuccessful trials in England
By Babajide Alaka
The Heartland defender is also touted for a starting position in the team’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Rwanda in Kigali on February 29.
"Chigozie Agbim, Bartholomew Ibenegbu, and Chibuzor Okonkwo, are three certainties for the eight places that have been given to the home based Eagles according to feelers from the coaching crew,” a camp official told Goal.com.
Okonkwo, who also played at right-back under former coach Samson Siasia, is tipped for the same position in the coming matches.
“Okonkwo is almost guaranteed a starting berth as he appears to be the strongest defender we have currently playing from the right and that position has been a source of headache to the coach, but his arrival from his trials kind of solves that challenge,” the source added.
Okonkwo just returned to the country after two weeks of trials at Reading, an English Championship side, that were unsuccessful.
