Liberia pick squad for international friendly against Nigeria
The Lone Stars are using the game against the Super Eagles to build a foundation for their future success
By Babajide Alaka
Nigeria will continue their preparation for their first leg encounter against Rwanda in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations later this month with a friendly match against Liberia on February 15.
The Liberians have a long term plan in the works as locally based players have been called up into a camp that is expected to run for six months.
This much was revealed by Ephraim Harris, a Monrovia-based journalist.
“Some of our players have had to come back home after they lost their shirts in their overseas clubs to join local teams and have been called into the national team. So through their participation in the camping exercise and friendly matches they may be able to get new clubs abroad,” Harris told Goal.com.
Liberia have named a 22-man team that will kick start six months of training where they will be evaluated month to month.
“The camping formation was designed to keep the local players together with the thought of building a vibrant locally-based squad that will be injected with few of the overseas based players.
“And this is the first time that Liberia will be embarking on a long camping period since the start of the civil crisis,” Harris added.
Interim Liberia coach Thomas Kojo has invited the following players for the encounter.| Name | Club | |
