Rangers 5-0 Jigawa: Flying Antelopes consolidate position on the top of the table
The Enugu side walloped Jigawa to remain on top of the league table, Enyimba and Dolphins won while Kano Pillars lost to Kaduna United on Wednesday evening
Rangers turned on their best performance this season as they walloped Jigawa Golden Stars 5-0 to remain on top of the league table with 40 points.
Dolphins and Enyimba also grabbed the three points in their home games to also remain on second and third with 38 points.
As early as the fourth minute of the match, Efe Yarehe latched on a good pass from Chikeluba Ofoedu to score the first goal for the Enugu team.
Ifeanyi Edeh was on hand to get the second goal for Rangers in the 36th minute after a move initiated by Ejike Uzoenyi and Yarehe.
Five minutes later, Edeh was brought down in the vital area of Golden Stars and Ofoedu stepped up to convert the penalty for his 10th goal of the season.
Rangers were not done in the first half and Ambrose Onyema released a canon of a shot from almost the centre circle for the fourth goal of the game.
But in the second half, the Flying Antelopes decided to take it easy and allowed Jigawa Stars come into the game, but captain Nura Mohammed could not marshal his colleagues to reduce the tally.
But just as the spectators thought it was all over, striker Uzoenyi sealed the game with another spectacular goal like the goal.
"It was a good game because the players did very well and we will continue to work hard to make sure we win the Premier League," coach Okey Emordi told Goal.com.
Enyimba remained on second position with 38 points after the goal by Uche Kalu in the 67th minute gave them all three points against Shooting Stars in Aba.
Dolphins were 3-0 better than Wikki Tourists as Azeez Sobowale scored in the 5th minute, Adamu Mohammed got the second goal in the 54th minute and Victor Michael completed the rout in the four minutes before regulation time.
Sibi Gwar continued his scoring form as his lone goal against Warri Wolves ensured Niger Tornadoes grabbed all three points in Minna. Gwar has scored seven goals this season.
Sharks played well to beat Abubakar Bukola Saraki 3-1 in Ilorin, while Kaduna United defeated Kano Pillars 2-0. Pillars are now fourth on the table with 36 points.
Gombe United improved on the league table with a 2-1 victory over Rising Stars.
